Active Member Application

Becoming an Aalto Cocktail Active Member is a fantastic opportunity to dive deeper into the world of cocktails. You'll have the chance to help improve our cozy clubroom and play a role in organizing exciting events. You’ll also get hands-on experience through bartending gigs, create brand-new cocktails, and, most importantly, join our warm and welcoming community of cocktail enthusiasts.

You do not need to be experienced with cocktails to join - our other actives will help you get started!

We will be holding an Actives’ Welcome Night on 26.1. which is mandatory for all actives, so please reserve the evening free starting from 18:00. If you have trouble attending or any questions, please contact @johannesjuopuu or @tuulaniemi on Telegram.

You can read more about the specific activities below the form (on mobile) or on the right (on desktop).

Organizing events

The thing the club most needs its Actives for is for organizing events. Members’ Nights, checkpoints, and workshops are usually organized by a board member, but Actives provide crucial help.

Before an event Actives can help with planning, for example by coming up with cocktail ideas for an upcoming workshop. Often a board member in charge of the upcoming event asks for ideas in the AC Actives Telegram chat. During and after events all kinds of cleaning is greatly appreciated. Typically cleaning consists of washing dishes. Other Actives and board members can help with the use of the dishwasher.

Workshops

One of the most common events hosted by the club are workshops at the clubroom. They are usually hosted once a month during the academic year. Workshops are events where participants make three cocktails with instruction from our Active members. The themes for the workshops are decided in meetings that are held every couple of months. The workshops start at 18.00 and last for a couple of hours Workshops are a great way to get to know the club: you can come help at one even if you don’t feel like doing the actual teaching at the workshop stations.

Members’ Nights and checkpoints

In addition to workshops, Aalto Cocktail organises monthly members’ nights and keeps checkpoints in different check point events in Otaniemi.

Members’ nights are freeform monthly events where members can come to the clubroom and hangout.

Checkpoints in Otasuunnistus and Talvipäivä are important events for advertising Aalto Cocktail to new potential members. To make both days happen, we need Actives to advertise Aalto Cocktail together with board members at the checkpoints.

The Lab

We started hosting lab nights in 2024 to figure out recipes for events and Members’ Nights, and they have been quite fun, so we will probably continue with them this year. Lab nights are more free form evenings for Actives to try out experimental recipes or just adjust classic recipes to fit the ingredients available for us.

Gigs

The club offers bartending and workshop hosting services to students, private customers and businesses. The income is used to fund the club’s activities.

Each gig always has at least two members working. The gigs may be held at the clubroom or some other event venue.

Participating in gigs is an excellent way to gain some experience in actual bartending. You can go on a gig even with just basic bartending knowledge: one of the gig members should always have previous experience on leading a gig.

In addition to the actual bartending or workshop instruction, a gig includes the work of planning the recipes and preparing and then cleaning the tools. If the gig is not held at the clubroom, the tools need to be transported from and back to the club.

Other Active activities

In recent years we’ve had a game nights, home bar crawls, local cocktail bar get-togethers, excursions to Tallinn’s cocktail bars, a Vappu celebration, seasonal parties, and probably something else that I’m forgetting. The activities are usually spearheaded by one Active who wants to make the event happen, so if you have any ideas about something fun for the Actives to do, you will most likely get the club’s support if you are willing to take the lead on organizing it.
